How to Alleviate Bad Breath

If you’re concerned about bad breath, call us for an appointment and we can help identify or rule out its source.

The most common causes of bad breath are:

  • Your tongue (when bacteria grows in between the papilla)
  • Cavities (especially when food particles get stuck in them)
  • Gum disease
  • Extraction sites during healing
  • Dentures (when improperly cleaned)
  • Alcohol and tobacco

If we can’t locate the cause and recommend a course of treatment, you may need to see a doctor. Some common medical causes of bad breath include:

  • Sore throat
  • Tonsillitis
  • Foods
  • Air passage infection

Keep in mind that mouthwashes or mints won’t treat the problem, they’ll only mask it for a short period of time. In fact, mouthwashes that contain alcohol may cause dry mouth and make the problem worse.
