Root Canal Treatment

Your teeth have three different layers:

  • Enamel — the outermost and hardest layer
  • Dentin — the second layer
  • Pulp — the cavernous space where the live tissue and nerve of each tooth is located

If the pulp is expose to the outside, the tissue becomes contaminated and eventually infected.

Root canal treatment is the process of going inside the pulp and removing the infected, dead tissue. The space is subsequently disinfected and sealed with special materials. After your root canal treatment is complete, a crown is usually placed on your tooth to safeguard it against fracture.
